I'd love to throw fidget over the house..
Q: How would you describe your style of music?
A: A Fidget house.
Q: Aah?
Fidget house is a relatively new style in the club scene and is a genre of house music that competently combines a variety of styles of electronic music simultaneously such as bassline, breakbeat, Chicago house, electro, techno, UK garage, essentials of funky, rave, drum n bass, hip-hop to reggae and speed garage; producing moving, cool club songs.
The style turned out to become extremely trendy between producers and club goers owing to its glitchy drums, contagious pitch-bent basslines, sudden vocal snippets, rave-like synthesizer stabs and humorous use of effects over all around a four-to-the-flour rhythm. Fidget house is a raw, intense genre that distinguishes itself by well define edits and strong pitch-bent melodic lines, rather than delicate textures and intricate sound processing.
Producers such as Sinden, Fake Blood, Switch, Trevor Loveys, Jack Beats, Digital Filth, and Hervé have embellished the early fundamentals of fidget house and brought the genre on to the new levels which make this style more demanding from a production point of view. It’s not uncommon nowadays to find fidget mixed into dubstep, glitch and breakbeat DJ’s sets.
I think I'll feel fidgety..
Fidget is a funny sounding word, which reminds me that old swing tune “Fidgety Feet”. Fidget house then is a funny sounding house style, filled with thousand fidgety feet.
At first it was the simple answer to the question “How would you describe your style of music?”
In 2006 a DJ and producer Dave Taylor (aka Switch) started to make some loud noise with his distinctive production style as you can hear in his A Bit Patchy
track from that period. With that, he established a foundation for a fidget house as we know it now.
That was Dave Taylor and Jesse Rose who invented the term ‘fidget house’ as the way to the answer the above question: “How would you describe your style of music?” As they say, it was "a joke, which has now gone a little too far."
Fidget house - initially just a reference to the type of compositions Jesse Rose and Switch were creating. Those songs were based on straightforward, catchy grooves that geared toward the younger club crowd. Some successful mainstream tracks, such as remix by Crookers of Day And Night (Kid Cudi), have elevated fidget house to a broader audience.
