Top Five Best ELECTRO Artists
This is probably THE most influential genre. What kinda music we will have without enormous Roland
TR-808 drum kick, vocoderized voice and those synthesizer leads?
The electro started somewhere in the early 1980s when some artists started to shift in their compositions from real instruments to purely electronic ones. Roland TR-808 drum machine sets up everybody on fire.
Whether its electro-influenced dance music, pop, or rock; bursting, animated synthesized sounds are of the utterly importance.
Arguably electro was there before techno and even house. Artists of late 1960s and 70s like Sly Stone, Herbie Hancock (Future Shock
), Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Norman Whitfield, George Clinton and his P Funk brigade are all contributed to the development of the electro genre, and so did the early synthesizers, hip-hop, funk and new wave. Do you remember the early European explorers of electronic music like Jean Michel Jarre, British Human League, Gary Numan and German Kraftwerk (Trans-Europe Express
) of the 1970s? Artists like Dynamix II (Just Give The DJ A Break
), Afrika Bambaataa (Planet Rock
) and Egyptian Lover (Egypt,Egypt / And My Beat Goes Boom
) of the 1980s?
After listening to the first explorers from the 70s and 80s it's really hard not to hear their influence on the artists and specific genres like Daft Punk with synth lines and vocoder treatments, drum and bass and jungle with TR-808 in there. Listen carefully to Chicago booty house, Detroit ghetto tech, Florida breaks, Baltimore club or Miami bass and you'll hear how heavy they're all relying on electro foundation.
